TM GLOBAL BAGS A DOUBLE WIN AT THE ASIAN TELECOM AWARDS 2024
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 March 2024 – TM Global, the domestic and international wholesale
business arm of TM, clinched top honours in two prestigious categories: Telecom Company of
the Year – Malaysia, and the Wholesale Company Initiative of the Year – Malaysia, at the Asian
Telecom Awards held in Singapore. This marks the second consecutive year TM Global has
received these accolades, solidifying its position as a leader in shaping the telecommunications
landscape within Malaysia and across Asia.
Khairul Liza Ibrahim, Executive Vice President of TM Global, said, "The awards underscore TM
Global’s efforts as a catalyst of digital adoption across industries and the nation’s 5G ecosystem.
Internationally, we serve as the gateway for businesses seeking to expand into ASEAN and vice

She further emphasised TM Global's transition from a traditional telco wholesaler to a digital

reaffirmation of our work in pioneering digital solutions to transcend borders and driving
connectivity across the region."
TM Global’s initiatives continue to help narrow the digital divide and nurture digital opportunities
through the expansion of high-capacity connectivity infrastructure nationwide and the deployment
of two additional International Internet Gateways in East Malaysia. Internationally, TM Global
continued to bolster its connectivity strength, facilitate content distribution through TM Edge, and
expand its platform services to connect service providers worldwide with the vibrant ASEAN
market.
The Asian Telecom Awards, hosted by the Asian Telecom magazine, a publication of the global
Charlton Media Group, honours businesses and initiatives that are not only driving progress in
the telecom industry, but have also ignited transformative shifts that have reshaped the digital
landscape. These recognitions are a testament to TM Global’s ability to support regional and
international service providers through comprehensive digital infrastructure solutions, providing a
seamless gateway for their expansion into the region.

TM's decision to exit menara KL concession
Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM" or "the Group") wishes to clarify that Menara KL ("MKL" or "Tower") is owned by the Government while the operations and maintenance of the tower is granted under a concession. TM via its wholly owned subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd. (MKLSB) had undertaken the concession since 1996. As part of its business transformation programme, TM is focusing its efforts and resources on strengthening its core business of telecommunications and technology. After due consideration on the change in the business nature of MKL, from telecommunications services to tourism and hospitality, TM has decided in October 2021 not to renew the MKL concession and informed the Government accordingly. Subsequently in 2022, the selection process of the new Concessionaire was then taken up by the Government upon which TM was informed on the appointed company to take over the shares of MKLSB and the MKL concession. MKLSB shall continue to operate the concession and ensure the continuity of MKL operations for the Malaysian public, including international visitors. Employees will remain employed with MKLSB under the new Concessionaire for a minimum period of 3 years. This is to ensure their welfare is protected in this transition. In TM’s 3Q 2022 financial announcement to Bursa Malaysia, a reference was made in the subsequent changes to shareholding in MKLSB. TM practices good governance and transparency in our business undertakings to preserve the interest of our customers and stakeholders. TM will provide our full cooperation and disclosures as required by the authorities. TM Global Expands Network Infrastructure To Boost High-Speed Connectivity For Sabah And Sarawak
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 October 2023 – TM Global, the wholesale domestic and international business arm of TM, today announced the successful deployment of two additional International Internet Gateways (IGW) in Sabah and Sarawak. These IGWs will serve as crucial hubs for international Internet traffic exchange, reflecting the business’ commitment to continuously expand its local network infrastructure and offer high-speed Internet connectivity in East Malaysia. This network expansion will enable TM’s customers in East Malaysia and the neighbouring region to access global internet traffic via the most efficient route. By reducing the need to route traffic back to West Malaysia, these IGWs will significantly enhance connectivity speed and reliability for businesses, service providers and their end-customers. The two IGWs are located in Penampang (Sabah) and Stampin (Sarawak), strengthening TM Global’s existing Internet Exchange (IX) nodes across Sabah and Sarawak. The existing nodes in Sabah are in Kota Kinabalu, Inanam, Elopura, Menggatal and Putatan. Meanwhile, in Sarawak the nodes are in Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Petra Jaya, Kuala Baram and Tabuan Jaya. Commenting on the initiative, Khairul Liza Ibrahim, TM Global’s Executive Vice President said, “As a strategic partner to enable Malaysia’s digital agenda, the deployment of these new IGWs reinforces our mission to connect Malaysia globally. “More importantly, these IGWs help bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak, benefitting densely populated areas and enhancing Internet coverage for communities in smaller towns and remote locations. This will help drive digital opportunities for education, job prospects and entrepreneurship that will uplift these communities into the digital economy. “This amplified network reach also empowers TM Global to curate a more enriched digital experience, facilitating the global dissemination of substantial content at faster speeds while minimising latency. This advancement aligns with the progressive trajectory of 5G technology, demonstrating our unwavering dedication to position Malaysia as a trusted digital hub within the ASEAN region,” she concluded.
TM SUPPORTS GOVERNMENT’s DECISION FOR TWO-PHASED IMPLEMENTATION OF 5G
TM supports the Government’s decision to implement 5G over two phases, as announced by Communications and Digital Minister YB Fahmi Fadzil on 3 May 2023. TM will work closely with the Government and the industry to ensure the success of both Phase 1 (80% service coverage by DNB) and Phase 2 (shift to two networks) for Malaysia’s 5G implementation. TM looks forward to continue playing an active role in the 5G implementation, leveraging its nationwide fibre infrastructure, extensive digital platforms (data centres, edge nodes) and rollout experience. TM shall continue to deliver converged connectivity and solutions across fibre and 5G to its home, SME, enterprise and Government customers through Unifi and TM One.
