TM ANNOUNCES SOVEREIGN GPU-AS-ASERVICE TO EMPOWER MALAYSIA’S AI ASPIRATIONS
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 December 2024 – TM, Malaysia’s telecommunication leader, has further strengthened its core capabilities by ramping up its digital infrastructure to enable GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS). Hosted entirely within the country, this initiative aims to bolster Malaysia's AI infrastructure and accelerate digital transformation. The solution was unveiled following the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) by YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The first of its kind in Malaysia, this innovative solution leverages NVIDIA GPU technology hosted at TM’s Uptime Tier-III certified data centres. TM’s GPUaaS provides low-latency, real-time, high-performance AI computing capabilities while ensuring data sovereignty and security, reinforcing Malaysia’s aspirations to become a leader in AI innovation within ASEAN.
TM’s GPUaaS eliminates the need for capital-intensive investments, providing scalable and on-demand access to cutting-edge resources. Backed by TM’s nationwide fibre optic network and edge computing facilities, it seamlessly integrates GPU resources with high-speed connectivity to power AI-driven applications such as:
• AI for Public Services: Real-time AI Avatars providing information for citizens.
• Healthcare Diagnostics: AI-powered imaging and analytics.
• Autonomous Vehicles: Real-time traffic and navigation systems.
• Immersive Media: AR/VR content creation with real-time rendering.
Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s Group Chief Executive Officer, stated, “TM’s GPUaaS will further enhance our digital infrastructure and support the nation’s AI aspiration. TM’s data centres hosting GPUaaS are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified green buildings, designed to ensure sustainability and energy efficiency. This aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, supporting innovation while reducing environmental impact. In addition to hosting TM’s GPUaaS, these data centres are also available to host other GPU providers.
The sovereign GPUaaS reinforces Malaysia’s readiness to become a digital-first economy; transforming critical sectors such as healthcare and transportation, driving economic development and enhancing public service delivery.

TM accelerates digital adoption amongst Pekan Rabu entrepreneurs
More than 300 local entrepreneurs at Pekan Rabu are set to move to the next level in digitalisation with the availability of 800Mbps unifi connectivity through collaboration with Koperasi Pekan Rabu. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues to expand its unifi broadband connectivity to the Pekan Rabu entrepreneur community towards increasing digital adoption amongst them through a collaboration with Koperasi Pekan Rabu at Kompleks Pekan Rabu, Alor Setar, Kedah. The programme was launched by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Finance in a ceremony compliant with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Also present were Dato' Asri Hamidon, Secretary-General of Treasury; Dato' Paduka Ammar Dato' Shaikh Mahmood Naim, State Secretary of Kedah; Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM; Romani Wan Salin, Information, Communications and Multimedia, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman and Azhar Abdul Rahman, State Director, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Commenting on the programme, Imri said: "The pandemic has changed our lifestyle and accelerated digital adoption among the communities and businesses. We are excited to join hands with Kedah State Government and Koperasi Pekan Rabu to provide one (1) year free high speed WiFi connection of 800Mbps at Pekan Rabu. We hope this can boost the digital journey of business communities there and enable the entrepreneurs to further enhance their businesses with digital solutions. We will also upskill the Pekan Rabu entrepreneurs with training sessions on digital applications such as our cari@unifi digital marketing platform and Instaweb for website building." "As the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, we remain committed to our unique role in supporting the Government's nation-building initiatives such as MyDIGITAL – Malaysia Digital Economy blueprint towards establishing a digital economy and empowering Digital Malaysia," he added. With the availability of the high speed connectivity, Pekan Rabu business operators are set to move to the next level with digital enhancement while maintaining its authenticity as an iconic, must go location in Kedah for its traditional, aesthetic and locally-produced products.
TM's decision to exit menara KL concession
Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM" or "the Group") wishes to clarify that Menara KL ("MKL" or "Tower") is owned by the Government while the operations and maintenance of the tower is granted under a concession. TM via its wholly owned subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd. (MKLSB) had undertaken the concession since 1996. As part of its business transformation programme, TM is focusing its efforts and resources on strengthening its core business of telecommunications and technology. After due consideration on the change in the business nature of MKL, from telecommunications services to tourism and hospitality, TM has decided in October 2021 not to renew the MKL concession and informed the Government accordingly. Subsequently in 2022, the selection process of the new Concessionaire was then taken up by the Government upon which TM was informed on the appointed company to take over the shares of MKLSB and the MKL concession. MKLSB shall continue to operate the concession and ensure the continuity of MKL operations for the Malaysian public, including international visitors. Employees will remain employed with MKLSB under the new Concessionaire for a minimum period of 3 years. This is to ensure their welfare is protected in this transition. In TM’s 3Q 2022 financial announcement to Bursa Malaysia, a reference was made in the subsequent changes to shareholding in MKLSB. TM practices good governance and transparency in our business undertakings to preserve the interest of our customers and stakeholders. TM will provide our full cooperation and disclosures as required by the authorities. TM Announces Upcoming Change In Chairmanship
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dato’ Zainal Abidin Putih as its new chairman effective 1 August 2023. He will succeed Tan Sri Azlan Hashim, who completes his 2-year term on 31 July 2023. Dato' Zainal Abidin brings a wealth of experience and distinguished track record in the corporate sector. He is currently Chairman of Financial Reporting Foundation (FRF), Land and General Berhad, Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd and Tokio Marine lnsurans (Malaysia) Bhd, as well as Board Member of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and several private limited companies. He has also previously served as Chairman of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) and President of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). As Chairman, Dato' Zainal Abidin will be responsible for overseeing the overall governance and strategic direction of TM. He will work closely with the Board of Directors and management team to drive TM's next wave of growth and strengthen its market position. Tan Sri Azlan, who shall complete his term as Chairman on 31 July 2023, expressed his confidence in the appointment of Dato' Zainal Abidin and stated, "I am delighted to hand over the reins to Dato' Zainal Abidin. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the corporate sector make him the ideal candidate to lead TM into its next phase of growth. I have full confidence in his ability to guide the company towards greater achievements and new horizons." Dato' Zainal Abidin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and said, "I am honored to assume the role of Chairman of TM. I am excited to build upon the strong foundation laid by Tan Sri Azlan and work together with the Board and management team to create new opportunities and achieve even greater heights. It is an exciting time to be joining TM, especially as we build on the company's recent successes."
