TM’s Edge Facilities Win W. Media’s Asia Pacific Cloud And Datacenter Award For The Southeast Asian Region
Kuala Lumpur, 5 December 2023 – TM Global, the wholesale domestic and international business arm of TM, secured a prestigious accolade at this year's W.Media Asia Pacific Cloud & Datacenter Awards, for its Edge Facilities project aptly titled 'Delivering the Edge'. Effectively meeting the global demand for decentralised data hosting via co-location, this achievement solidifies TM Global's commitment to enhance the country’s digital ecosystem and position Malaysia as a trusted digital hub for the Southeast Asian region.
Functioning as a regional data hosting facility, the project involves transforming existing TM exchanges into Edge Facilities across seven states, including Seberang Jaya (Penang), Tasek Ipoh (Perak), Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), Kuantan (Pahang), Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuching (Sarawak). Strategically positioned close to the edge of TM’s network, TM’s Edge Facilities significantly reduce the distance between the content hosting location and end-users. This closeness supercharges the velocity of data transmission with ultra-low latency, leading to an enhanced digital experience for all users.

The design of TM’s Edge Facilities replicate key features of a data centre, which includes a carrier-neutral network with service level availability of 99.7%, enabling service providers to capitalise on the flourishing landscape of real-time applications. TM’s Edge Facilities significantly enhance cost-efficiency, accelerates time-to-market and offers scalability to meet the growing demands for both domestic and international service providers.
By winning this prestigious award, TM Global reinforces its commitment to elevate the digital landscape and shape the future of data and cloud technology in the Southeast Asian region. Now in its third year, the award encourages industry transformation and innovation. It recognises achievement and excellence in championing the 3P’s for the cloud and data centre industry: Planet, Project and People. Winners were presented with the awards during a ceremony held at the Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong on 30 November 2023.
Earlier this year, TM won another two awards at the Asian Telecom Awards via TM Global. These accolades, namely “Telecom Company of the Year” and “Wholesale Company Initiative of the Year” recognised TM’s exceptional performance in spearheading significant advancements within Malaysia and the region's telecommunications landscape. The accomplishments underpin the transformation of TM Global’s wholesale business into a new era, marked by the expansion of its Edge capabilities.

Companies sign three business agreements to drive greater internet access for Malaysians SUBANG JAYA, 3 OCTOBER 2019 – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) and TM GLOBAL, the Global and Wholesale arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today marked another major milestone in the Nation's telecommunications industry when both companies formalised a collaboration to improve the internet reachability nationwide. This deal signifies the ongoing commitment to support the Government's National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP). The agreements were signed by Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Executive Vice President, TM GLOBAL and Alex Foo, Head of Strategy and Transformation, Digi. Also present to witness the event were Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Dato' Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Albern Murty, Chief Executive Officer, Digi. Under this collaboration, TM GLOBAL and Digi will leverage each other's core expertise and capabilities for the benefit of Malaysians through three (3) major business arrangements. Commenting on the collaboration, Dato' Noor Kamarul said, "We are excited to be working together with Digi as our strategic partner towards driving more high quality and affordable connectivity, in line with our higher purpose to connect all Malaysians. TM, as the enabler of Digital Malaysia with our solid network infrastructure and digital solutions is ready to propel the nation into Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and today, we continue to serve as the industry backbone connecting Malaysia to the world. We serve more than 100 licensed operators in Malaysia including all telcos leveraging on our extensive backhaul coverage. Today this collaboration is a further move towards enabling Malaysia's digital and socio economic aspirations." Albern Murty, Chief Executive Officer of Digi said, "Industry partnerships play an important part in driving the nation's agenda to provide greater connectivity across the country. In our purpose to connect Malaysians to what matters most, we will actively work with strategic partners like TM to improve the quality and range of service offerings for Malaysians that will bring more socio-economic benefits for them." One of the business arrangements consists of the utilisation of Sistem Kabel Rakyat Malaysia (SKRM), the inter-region submarine cable system that was jointly developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) collaboration between TM and MCMC. The cable system uses 100Gbps technology at an initial capacity of 4 Terabit per second (Tbps) and upgradeable to a minimum of 12.8Tbps. Via SKRM, TM GLOBAL will facilitate Digi's high capacity transmission requirements making Digi the anchor service provider for this cable system to East Malaysia. Digi will also optimise the use of more than 7,000 TM's hotspots nationwide providing WiFi connectivity to the public, complementing users' needs for internet access on the move. This initiative capitalises on the use of existing assets and network infrastructure, portraying the synergy between fixed and mobile operators in delivering cost-effective, alternative wireless solutions for the nation. In addition to benefiting end-users, the synergy may trigger more local players to produce content for these users. TM GLOBAL and Digi are also in a pact for the last mile connectivity at Kampung Mat Daling, Pahang, another project under the Universal Service Provision (USP) initiative that involves network fiberisation by TM, extending internet reach to the underserved areas. Such collaboration between two key industry players is in line with the Government's call for greater industry cooperation. Leveraging existing infrastructure allows service providers to avoid unnecessary duplication of network infrastructure and instead, focus on rolling out in areas where it matters, and improving access and customer experiences in these areas. This will ultimately benefit both consumers and businesses by enriching Malaysians with world-class, superfast connectivity, further improving broadband penetration throughout Malaysia.
TM joins SK Telecom to Pioneer Multi-Access Edge Computing in Malaysia
SEOUL, 6 September 2023 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and SK Telecom today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) to jointly develop the Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) business arrangement in Malaysia. This will pave the way for the business to be pioneered and provisioned in Malaysia. The signing took place at SK Telecom’s headquarters in Seoul in the presence of YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital, Malaysia who had just arrived in South Korea for a working visit. TM was represented by Khairul Liza Ibrahim, TM Global’s covering Executive Vice President, while signing on behalf of SK Telecom was its Vice President and Head of Enterprise CIC of SKT, Kyeong Deog Kim. “I am happy to have witnessed the MoU signing between TM and SK Telecom as there are many opportunities that can be gained from such close cooperation and collaboration. I believe this MoU is a step in the right direction,” said Fahmi. Khairul Liza said, “TM remains steadfast in solidifying its stature as Malaysia’s preferred network infrastructure provider, catalysing digital industry and 4G/5G ecosystem while simultaneously positioning the country to become a digital hub for ASEAN. Our next step is to provide the means to empower all our customers in Malaysia and the region with multi-access edge computing from all our data centres around the country. Indulge Your Sensory Experience At The Upcoming Immersio Festival Organised By Yayasan Tm And Filamen At Muzium Telekom
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) through its foundation arm, Yayasan TM (YTM) continues to support the nation's creative industry development by hosting IMMERSIO Festival in collaboration with Filamen at Muzium Telekom Kuala Lumpur. The festival is one of the unique large-scale Art & Technology experiential exhibitions to be staged in the city centering on New Media Art, NFT Crypto Art and Immersive Art, featuring more than 60 local digital artists and collectives from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak. IMMERSIO was established in 2017 with the objective to bring together new media artists from around Kuala Lumpur and the region to exhibit their work marrying arts and technology. After a 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the event is back for its fourth (4th) instalment. This month, the festival will occupy Muzium Telekom for the first time, throughout the 27,000 sqft venue in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with 12 immersive installations and 7 workshops as well as talks. Situated within the 94-years old heritage building, Muzium Telekom traces the history of telecommunications in Malaysia from the 1870s up to the present, and IMMERSIO with the theme Mengukir pays homage to the country's achievements in digital infrastructure. Bringing together like-minded emerging and well-established artists, YTM aims to create more meaningful and accessible relationships between people, cultural heritage and the digital world through art and technology. Among the line-up is the Kuala Lumpur based artist, Jun Ong's kinetic installation "Beacon", an expression of the sensorial response to the extinction of nature. Visitors are also invited to take a walk around the room featuring "In Soul in the Fabric of Society", an installation of songket handwoven fabrics by a collective of women weavers from Sarawak known as Tanoti, as well as art installation using fiber optic materials by Cheong See Min, a weaver and textile artist based in Johor. Walking into the exhibition, the visitors will experience Network, an audio installation of telecommunication soundbites from the classic landline telephone to 5G radio waves specially curated by artist duo iwaz and Martian Backline. Conceived partly in response to the Covid-19 crisis, which has been a time of isolation for many, the installation reminds us to be grateful for advancement of technologies that we often take for granted. YTM aims to transform this heritage museum into a vibrant and versatile public arts space that enable artists, collectors and art lovers to immerse themselves to experience these new art mediums in new exciting ways and at the same time provide a platform for inspiring talents including TM Group's own Multimedia University (MMU) students to showcase their creativity and innovation at Muzium Telekom. Holding on to the higher principle of ensuring that no one gets left behind in this digital age, YTM is also exhibiting the extraordinary artworks from WE&I and Nakseni gifted artists in the Virtual Reality (VR) Gallery. The festival will be also featuring the artwork by Rashwin Kalithas, a five-year old special needs young artist that will be receiving a recognition by The Malaysia Book of Records for the "Youngest Autistic Child to Hold Solo Digital Arts Exhibition" at this Media & Partner Night held at Muzium Telekom.
