TM CONFIRMS NO SERVICE DISRUPTION AMIDST GLOBAL TECH OUTAGE LINKED TO CROWDSTRIKE
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 July 2024 - In view of the recent global tech outage linked to a flawed endpoint protection software update issued by a cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike, which has affected many organisations worldwide, TM wishes to assure our customers and stakeholders that there is no disruption to our business operations and services.
TM has proactively detected this issue and managed it swiftly. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate updates as necessary.

TM MARKS 80 YEARS OF CONNECTING MALAYSIA; COMMITS TO A PROGRESSIVE AND INCLUSIVE AI-DRIVEN FUTURE
CYBERJAYA, 26 AUGUST 2026 — Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today marked its 80th anniversary, reaffirming its role in Malaysia's development, and committing to an inclusive digital future built on trusted infrastructure, local talent and stronger national capabilities. The TM80: Merentasi Generasi celebration, held at Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya, was officiated by Prime Minister YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also in attendance was Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor; Dato' Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications; Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia; and Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. The celebration captured TM’s journey, and the people and technologies that empowered Malaysia. From postal and telegram services to the first wired connections that broadcasted Tunku Abdul Rahman's proclamation of “Merdeka”, and every digital milestone after, TM80 is the story of generations of Malaysians growing alongside the nation’s progress. From major cities to rural communities and remote islands, TM continues to extend connectivity using fibre, wireless, satellite and other technologies suited to local and geographical needs. At Kampung Mukut in Pulau Tioman, fibre connectivity delivered via a 75-kilometre submarine cable powers village-wide WiFi. Vision AI CCTVs help keep the village safe and manage visitor flows, while local entrepreneurs use visitmukut.com, a community-run tourism platform to showcase their services. Lessons from Mukut are now extended across Tioman through Sekolah Angkat MADANI and digital empowerment programmes. Warga TM also keep networks running during times of crisis such as the pandemic, floods and other emergencies. Beyond specialised technicians, customer support teams and personnel across the country, the trained Rejimen Semboyan Pakar Telekom Askar Wataniah restore communications, safeguard assets, and deliver aid when communities need them most. TM's partnership with the neurodivergent community including NAK SENI, ZimiJ and the Early Autism Project, has also created platforms for visibility and participation, while its support for the National Sepak Takraw Squad enables athletes from grassroots development to national representation. DEVELOPING LOCAL TALENT Beyond communities, TM continues to develop talent. In 1996, MMU became Malaysia's first private university, nurturing the talent a digital economy would need. Today, it has produced more than 80,000 graduates and has over 18,000 students enrolled. Through MMU and other programmes such as TM Future Skills (TMFS), Yayasan TM (YTM), TVET MADANI, Sekolah Angkat Malaysia MADANI, and other programmes, TM empowers future engineers, entrepreneurs and industry leaders. Today, TM's international network of more than 400,000 kilometres across 39 submarine cable systems positions Malaysia as a connector of East and West, strengthening global data and trade flows. TM's participation in global consortiums continues to build links between Malaysia, ASEAN and the rest of the world, while its latest Morib Cable Landing Station, the fifth in the country, strengthens international access and route diversity. Adding to this integrated ecosystem, TM operates six data centres and is adding new capacity through the TM Nxera regional campus that is built international sustainability standards. Beyond infrastructure, TM’s AI Centre of Excellence obtained the international ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System certification, making TM the first telecommunications company in Malaysia to obtain these international AI credentials. While technology and the needs of the nation will continue to change, TM remains committed to the same responsibility – to lay the inclusive digital foundations for the country, even before it begins to need it.
unifi TV service disruption nationwide, service estimated to resume later this evening
At approximately 9:50pm on 3 January 2022, unifi TV services experienced service disruption nationwide due to impact to the power system triggered by a fire that affected the “Uninterruptible Power Supply” (UPS) equipment at TM IT Complex in Cyberjaya. The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) took control of the situation to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the premises. We have received the necessary building assessment and clearance from Bomba at 4.00am. The building block was not in full operation at the time, with only a small number of employees on site. There have been no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and TM will fully cooperate with any investigation as required by authorities. An immediate announcement has been released on TM’s social media channels to notify our affected customers and we have since ramped up our customer service engagements to attend to calls and enquiries. This incident has caused unifi TV service interruptions affecting close to 300,000 of our unifi TV viewers. Other TM and unifi services are not affected. We are working tirelessly with our contractors and engineering teams to ensure that services are being restored gradually, with power restoration expected to be completed by 12 noon today. unifi TV is estimated to resume its services by 3.00pm today. However, TMpoint Cyberjaya will remain closed temporarily due to low power supply. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers, and will continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of our employees and contractors during this restoration process.
