TM helps SK Bangsar students face the haze with N95 respiratory masks

Mindful of the current haze situation affecting school children, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), as part of its Corporate Responsibility initiative for the surrounding communities recently distributed a total of 1,000 N95 respiratory masks to students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bangsar (SK Bangsar), which is located nearby Menara TM.
The N95 masks were handed over in a simple ceremony at the school's open hall by Izad Ismail, Head of Corporate Responsibility and External Stakeholder Engagement, TM to Soharto Baharen, Headmaster of SK Bangsar.
This small yet meaningful contribution to the school marks the Company's concern on the well-being of the surrounding community members where it serves.
TM is also embarking on a donation drive via its digital charity platform, myENSANI to gather more fund enabling more schools to receive the N95 respiratory masks. For further information on this drive, visit http://myensani.com/maskgive.html

Equips SMK Paya Rumput with high-speed broadband connectivity to promote digital learning via latest innovation in teaching and learning Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), being a responsible corporate organisation mindful of its role towards nation building, today added Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Paya Rumput (SMK Paya Rumput) in Melaka to its list of adopted schools under the TM School Adoption programme, in collaboration with PINTAR Foundation. We also hope that this programme will help facilitate SMK Paya Rumput in achieving its objective under the Transformasi Sekolah programme by the year 2025 (TS25) as aspired by the Minister of Education." "As part of the Company's contribution under our Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives, we are pleased to share that we have provisioned the school with our 100Mbps unifi service, enabling teachers and students to enjoy fast broadband internet access and WiFi connection. TM, via our education arm, Multimedia University (MMU) and its partners will conduct Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-related programmes such as 3D printing and data logging, together with online learning which will benefit not only the school but also the surrounding communities. Meanwhile, in collaboration with the Faculty Creative Multimedia (FCM) of MMU, we will run a Proof of Concept (POC) of a Smart Attendance System using facial recognition software at the school. We hope that by the end of the POC, we can offer this state-of-the-art attendance system to other schools in Melaka and ultimately, nationwide. We also hope that with the exposure to such technologies and innovations, the communities will be encouraged to adopt a more digital lifestyle, as we move towards a Digital Malaysia," added Izlyn. The TM School Adoption programme is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of good academic achievement among students from low income households to give them the opportunity for a better future. It is a holistic programme that encourages the involvement of parents and community at large to attend IT, motivational courses as well as Parenting Seminars to become better equipped in educating their children. TM School Adoption Programme started in 2003 and to date, TM has adopted 15 schools around Malaysia with two (2) active schools namely SMK Paya Rumput, Melaka and Sekolah Pendidikan Khas Pekan Tuaran, Sabah. Throughout the years, TM has allocated more than RM2.4 million for its school adoption programme. Thus far, the programme has touched more than 20,000 lives including students, teachers, parents and community members of the surrounding areas where the adopted schools are located. TM inculcates creativity and interest in science among students
Science made easier with TM Nano Maker Kit Learning process: Briefing session on the usage of Nano Maker Kit where students can connect the Kit to their smart devices via Bluetooth to collect experiment results data. In action: An outdoor experiment on water rocket launching takes the interest of the students as they measure the rocket acceleration using Nano Maker Kit. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) under its Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives, recently collaborated with its partner, Creative Minds - a company specialised in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects – to conduct a programme called TM Nano Maker Kit, involving several schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. This innovation-oriented programme is an initiative by TM to inculcate interests in science and technology among the students. The programme also marked its continued commitment in promoting education exc ellence and empowering the learning of STEM in the classroom. Commenting on the programme, Izad Ismail, Head of Corporate Responsibility & External Stakeholder Management, Group Brand and Communication, TM said, “This programme requires students to innovate and create activities related to science and technology. Students in all the 10 participating schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were indeed very creative. They have the potential and capabilities to innovate but they need proper guidance to express the innovation. We hope that the training and learning process shared with them during this programme will encourage them to be even more creative and excel in Science and Technology subjects.” TM Nano Maker Kit programme provides a platform for the students to collect and analyse experimental data conducted in Physic and Mathematics. TM Nano Maker Kit also aimed to boost the students' abilities through hands-on activities which involve the usage of a technology known as ‘Data Logging’ to collect real-time data for the students to analyse. There are many parameters and types of data that can be tested using the TM Nano Maker Kit, including temperature, altitude, speed, weather, acceleration, pressure, light intensity and magnetic fields. The TM Nano Maker Kit saw participation of more than 300 students from 10 schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The schools involved, which served as the pilot group were SMK Dato’ Onn, SM Sains Banting, SMK Keramat Wangsa, SMK Batu Laut, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan, SMK Bandar Seri Putra, SMK Bukit Kucing Tengah, SMK Saujana Impian, SMK Dengkil and MRSM Sungai Besar.
TM gets prepared ahead of the upcoming monsoon season with swift water safety and humanitarian response training
Training to Upskill TM Volunteers and GDRN Members Towards Disaster Preparedness Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) under its Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives once again provides a humanitarian response training for the Company’s volunteers as well as to members of the GLC Disaster Response Network (GDRN) ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. The Company recently organised the training session, titled “GDRN Swift Water Safety and Humanitarian Response” as part of its initiatives for disaster preparedness in Malaysia. The four-day training – which featured certified trainers and speakers from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Ministry of Defense and United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) – was aimed at strengthening the participants’ humanitarian capabilities and minimising the loss of life and damage to properties and the environment during a disaster. The session saw participation of over 30 participants from TM, GDRN members from Axiata Berhad, Pharmaniaga, Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB), Yayasan Hasanah and Yayasan Sime Darby. In addition, more than 30 volunteers from Volunteer Malaysia (VM) - formerly known as iM4U - also took part in the simulation exercise, under the coordination of Azura Ibrahim, a trainer from World Food Programme – UNHRD. Izad Ismail, Head of Corporate Responsibility & External Stakeholder Management, Group Brand and Communication, TM who attended the programme commented: “This training follows a series of previous successful training, from the Disaster Preparedness Training in 2015 and Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management Training in 2016. This year, we aim to continue providing the knowledge and skills essential for disaster preparedness and humanitarian response. This time around, the focus was on swift water safety. As we cannot predict where or when the next disaster will strike, we need to always be ready. Past experiences have taught us on the importance of working together in emergency response efforts in order to reduce and mitigate disaster risks and wastages. So the disaster scenario simulation exercise conducted during the training allows for a realistic response to potentially real disasters.” “This training also serves as a platform to integrate the functions and responsibilities within TM itself, GDRN members and relevant Government Agencies in leveraging resources effectively during disaster situations. We hope that this pro-active approach focusing on preparedness will help to improve the emergency response efforts if the actual situation occurs,” he added. The training provided the participants with an in-depth understanding of emergency relief works which include the standard operating procedures, logistics, fleet, supply chain and warehouse management as well as personal health, safety and security risks during disasters. Besides that, the participants were also exposed to Swift Water Swimming, Basic Swift Water Safety and Rescue and Basic Boat Paddling.
