UMW and TM One collaboration for hybrid cloud solutions to spearhead UMW’s digitisation journey
UMW IT Services Sdn. Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UMW Group, today signed an agreement with TM One, the enterprise and public sector arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM”), to establish a collaboration on hybrid cloud.
The agreement signifies the next stage in UMW’s digital and transformation roadmap to consolidate and improve its current data centre architecture. It will also complement the modernisation process of the Group’s various applications and supports its relentless efforts to optimise technology and operations across its Strategic Business Units.
The signatories of the agreement were Shahril Ariffin, Group Chief Transformation & Technology Officer, UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and Shazurawati Abd Karim, Executive Vice President, TM One. Witnessing the signing ceremony held at the TM Convention Centre were Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President & Group Chief Executive Officer, UMW Holdings Berhad and Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.
Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali remarked, “As the UMW Group progresses its transformation journey, it is pivotal that its information technology infrastructure and services are also upgraded to support the diverse needs of our businesses. TM UNVEILS NEW CABLE LANDING STATION TO BOOST REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY
MORIB, 25 September 2025 – TM Global, the wholesale business arm of TM, today announced the completion of its fifth cable landing station in Morib, Selangor (Morib CLS). This marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure development, reinforcing the country’s position as a strategic digital hub in the region. Spanning 7,000 square feet, the Morib CLS is an open CLS that allows multiple service providers to interconnect and exchange connectivity and data traffic seamlessly. This facility is supported by a dedicated Network Operations Centre (NOC), offering 24/7 real-time monitoring for enhanced operational reliability and service assurance. Khairul Liza Ibrahim, Executive Vice President of TM Global, said, “The completion of the Morib CLS represents a pivotal step in enhancing Malaysia’s global connectivity. Strategically located along the Straits of Malacca, one of the world’s most important subsea cable routes, the open CLS serves as an ideal landing point—offering direct international access, improved route diversity, and reduced latency. Its proximity to Klang Valley’s data centre clusters further supports seamless network integration, optimising end-to-end data transmission efficiency.” As part of TM’s ambition to become a Digital Powerhouse by 2030, the Morib CLS is purpose-built for energy efficiency and future scalability, now capable of supporting up to three submarine cable systems—including the Sea-Me-We 6. Liza explained, “Beyond this milestone, TM Global is enhancing its digital transformation footprint, with data centres and Edge Facilities scaled up to 40MW. Innovating Malaysia's healthcare through 5G and digital solutions
TM One’s 5G and digital infrastructure reflects its commitment to enable smart hospitals and remote care capabilities TM One, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently previewed the innovative future of Malaysia’s healthcare sector, powered by 5G technology and digital solutions. Collaborating with Siemens Healthineers Malaysia, TM One shared its vision at the inaugural 5G in Healthcare Symposium, organised by the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM), where they showcased next-level innovations for the healthcare system, made possible by 5G connectivity. This gathering of healthcare providers highlighted the multiple benefits gained from digital transformation in the sector, including enhanced patient care and operational efficiencies, among others. The digitalisation of this essential sector has also proven to be particularly timely and effective in delivering health care during and post pandemic. Shazurawati Abd Karim, Executive Vice President of TM One explained the significance of 5G to Malaysian healthcare, stating that: “5G will positively impact the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and enable life-saving medical innovations that reflect the needs of a post pandemic society. TM One also showcased a virtual medical consultation solution powered by REMEDi, a digital healthcare technology developer. Through high-speed, low-latency 5G, the solution will provide enhanced video images and sound quality for safer diagnosis of patients and effective troubleshooting. In addition, this solution can be conveniently deployed anywhere, matching the current shift towards online examinations and telemedicine. Speaking about the event, Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh, President of APHM said, “The 5G in Healthcare Symposium was a great platform for our partners, TM One and Siemens Healthineers to demonstrate the future of Malaysia’s private healthcare, providing a guide on how to transform hospitals by leveraging 5G. MDEC and TM work together to deliver greater reach and impact to Malaysians in the digital economy
Both parties are collaborating on four (4) key areas of Digitally Empowered Businesses; Rural Digital Economy; Digitally Skilled Malaysians; and Digital Advocacy and Community Engagement. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today announced a collaboration in the joint effort to further strengthen the digital readiness of Malaysia, towards realising its Digital Nation aspirations. The collaboration encompasses four (4) key areas namely, to digitally empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); to bolster rural digital economy; to empower Malaysians with digital skills; and to leverage on each other's strengths in running digital advocacy and community engagement programmes. More significantly, it brings the two national organisations, MDEC and TM, together moving in tandem towards delivering greater digital reach and economic impact for the shared prosperity of all Malaysians. Under the MoU, TM and MDEC will work together in matching, introducing and connecting TM with MDEC's MSME ecosystem and established partners such as Perkhidmatan eDagang Setempat (PeDAS) programme, Pusat Internet Desa (PID) and Digital Xceleration (DX), as well as TM's MSME customers to offer products and solutions in TM's identified technology pillars towards further empowering the SME fraternity. This will pave the way towards producing business and technology savvy entrepreneurs, MSMEs who will then drive economic growth. Towards empowering the rural digital economy, both organisations will explore the initiatives to further expand connectivity infrastructure that in turn, can help enable mentoring and coaching to communities on how to increase the utilisation of emerging technology to improve business operations. Both parties will also look into organising training and workshops to enhance the digital skills and competencies of identified communities as well as TM employees, while at the same time building competent graduates to increase their employability.
