UMW and TM One collaboration for hybrid cloud solutions to spearhead UMW’s digitisation journey
UMW IT Services Sdn. Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UMW Group, today signed an agreement with TM One, the enterprise and public sector arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM”), to establish a collaboration on hybrid cloud.
The agreement signifies the next stage in UMW’s digital and transformation roadmap to consolidate and improve its current data centre architecture. It will also complement the modernisation process of the Group’s various applications and supports its relentless efforts to optimise technology and operations across its Strategic Business Units.
The signatories of the agreement were Shahril Ariffin, Group Chief Transformation & Technology Officer, UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and Shazurawati Abd Karim, Executive Vice President, TM One. Witnessing the signing ceremony held at the TM Convention Centre were Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President & Group Chief Executive Officer, UMW Holdings Berhad and Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.
Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali remarked, “As the UMW Group progresses its transformation journey, it is pivotal that its information technology infrastructure and services are also upgraded to support the diverse needs of our businesses. We are confident that this collaboration with TM One will lead to the optimisation of our data centre and our efficiency in managing data, improve scalability as well as offer better cost management. In addition, hybrid cloud offers the UMW Group better flexibility, reliability, agility and improved data security to support the growth of our businesses.”

TM One and SME Bank collaborate to deliver technology funding to SMEs under PENJANA
TM One and SME Bank sign agreement to provide technology funding to SMEs via SME Technology Transformation Fund (STTF) TM One, the business and public sector solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (SME Bank), an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative to offer technology funding for its Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) customers to accelerate their business and digital transformation. The MoU was signed by Ahmad Taufek Omar, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, TM One while SME Bank was represented by Aria Putera Ismail, its Group President/Chief Executive Officer. The SME Technology Transformation Fund (STTF), is a fund set up between SME Bank and the Ministry of Finance to offer financing assistance of up to RM3.0 million to local SMEs. This is part of the Government's Pelan Jana Semula Ekonomi Negara (PENJANA) economic stimulus package to provide financial assistance to SMEs in adopting digitalisation and/or automation in their business operations. Commenting on the collaboration, Ahmad Taufek said, "We are excited to work hand-in-hand with SME Bank to accelerate digital adoption amongst our customers particularly in the SME segment. This is in support of the Government's efforts under PENJANA to execute key initiatives to help SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim is to assist SMEs in addressing real business challenges and issues that they are currently facing with the digital solutions available. We have put in place dedicated teams and solutions to enable our customers to realise the full potential of their digital opportunities. Our Professional Services are a consultative approach in helping SMEs to understand how to plan their digital transformation based on their unique business requirements." Meanwhile, Aria said, "With a fund size of RM500 million, STTF is expected to directly assist SME entrepreneurs to achieve higher productivity, process efficiency, efficient cost management and greater market penetration. As at 11 November 2020, SME Bank has approved 18 applications worth RM36.55 million under the STTF fund. SME Bank's role in encouraging the SMEs to adopt digital technology was further enhanced with the introduction of ODELA, the first one-stop e-commerce platform backed by a Development Financial Institution (DFI), that enabled B2B entrepreneurs to make transactions and foster partnership across vast ecosystems. The Bank's wholesome approach in providing financing and entrepreneur development assistance further adds value and accelerate the development of digital economy thus boosting the nation's economic growth in this challenging time." STTF is to be used for financing the purchases of IT solutions and services, technology support services, computer hardware and software, equipment and/or machinery and other intangible assets to enhance productivity and efficiency. SMEs as defined by the National Entrepreneur and SME Development Council (NESDC) are eligible to apply for STTF. TM One's solutions are aimed at helping SMEs to achieve higher productivity, better cost management and improved efficiency for wider market penetration through the adoption of digitalisation and automation. TM Global Expands Network Infrastructure To Boost High-Speed Connectivity For Sabah And Sarawak
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 October 2023 – TM Global, the wholesale domestic and international business arm of TM, today announced the successful deployment of two additional International Internet Gateways (IGW) in Sabah and Sarawak. These IGWs will serve as crucial hubs for international Internet traffic exchange, reflecting the business’ commitment to continuously expand its local network infrastructure and offer high-speed Internet connectivity in East Malaysia. This network expansion will enable TM’s customers in East Malaysia and the neighbouring region to access global internet traffic via the most efficient route. By reducing the need to route traffic back to West Malaysia, these IGWs will significantly enhance connectivity speed and reliability for businesses, service providers and their end-customers. The two IGWs are located in Penampang (Sabah) and Stampin (Sarawak), strengthening TM Global’s existing Internet Exchange (IX) nodes across Sabah and Sarawak. The existing nodes in Sabah are in Kota Kinabalu, Inanam, Elopura, Menggatal and Putatan. Meanwhile, in Sarawak the nodes are in Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Petra Jaya, Kuala Baram and Tabuan Jaya. TM R&D wins prestigious MSC Malaysia APICTA 2018 for the innovation of Smart Safety Helmet
Places TM R&D as the Champion of Research & Development in 2018 TM Research & Development (TM R&D), the research arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently won the Cross Category: Research & Development for its innovative Smart Safety Helmet during the 19th MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) 2018 organised by the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM). Winning this prestigious award places TM R&D as the champion of Research & Development in 2018. In addition, TM R&D has been selected to represent Malaysia in the Cross Category: Research & Development at the International APICTA Awards 2018 in Guangzhou, China. Present to accept the award was Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer of TM R&D. Developed by TM R&D, Smart Safety Helmet is a data driven smart industrial or safety helmet, an Internet of Things (IoT) solution that provides live, wireless monitoring and array of sensors including accident impact and geolocation which can be used to perform various analysis towards creating a safer worksite. It sends telemetry to the cloud and processes the data for the benefit of the employer as well as the staff. It has all the safety helmet features, location tracking services, attendance, violation detection and a video camera for remote coaching and emergency observation of the workforce. This Smart Safety Helmet innovation is the first Smart Safety Helmet in Malaysia and it is now ready to be deployed for industry players across various sectors such as Oil & Gas, Construction, Chemical & Manufacturing Industry and many more.
