TM continues to empower the digital transformation in sub-urban and undeveloped areas

 

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues to strengthen its position as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion, bringing unlimited experiences, unmatched choices and unbeatable value to customers in Sarawak with its comprehensive suite of High Speed Broadband service offerings when the Company, through TM Sarawak recently expanded its unifi service to Mukah Division, in Mukah, Sarawak.

A launching ceremony to celebrate the milestone was held at the Resident Office for Mukah Division and graced by Hajah Hamdiah Haji Bakir, the Resident of Mukah Division, together with Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, State General Manager, TM Sarawak and Awang Abdul Khairulannuar, Business Head, TM Sibu.

In her speech, Hajah Hamdiah said, “The unifi service offering in Mukah is timely as Sarawak is currently embarking on digital economy to further propel its economic growth. The telecommunication infrastructure to support high-speed internet connectivity needs to be made available in order for digital economy to be adopted successfully for the benefits of the business and residential communities in Mukah. As the nation’s trusted telecommunications services provider, with its extensive network and expertise, we believe TM is more than capable to facilitate our digital transformation journey. We hope TM will continue to further expand its unifi service throughout the state not only covering the urban areas but also the sub-urban and rural areas to bridge the digital gap with their urban counterparts.”

With this expansion, unifi is now available in Mukah in key areas which include Politeknik Mukah until Kingwood Resort, Menara Pehin which houses most of the State Government departments in Mukah including Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) - the administrator for Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). The expansion will also include Jalan Orang Kaya Setiaraja and Jalan Petanak which will receive the service by end of September 2018. Further expansion will cover other areas such as Jalan Medan Setiaraja, Jalan Tellian, Jalan Hj Latip, Jln Kampung Pinang, Jalan Mohammad Fauzi, Taman Pelita Jaya and Jalan Mukah/Oya while other locations will be fiberised by unifi in stages.

“In line with the Broadband Improvement Plan, I’m also excited to share that our new unifi package, unifi Basic are now available for everyone at an affordable price of RM79 per month, bringing Malaysia in the group of other neighboring Asian countries (other than City State Countries) which offer fixed high speed broadband of 30Mbps at an affordable price,” Jaffer continued.

New unifi Plans

unifi is now available with simplified offerings in two (2) new plans to cater to the dynamic needs of all customers. The existing unifi Basic plan which offers the speed of 30Mbps (60GB quota) at RM79 per month is now open for all. Subscription to this plan will come with 17 free channels on playTV@unifi app which can be downloaded on Apple Store or Google Play. For customers who prefer unlimited quota to cater to their advanced digital lifestyle such as online entertainment, home surveillance, e-sports among others, the new unifi 100Mbps plan is available at only RM129 per month. This will come with unifi TV’s choice of premium entertainment packages with either Aneka Plus, Varnam Plus or Ruby Plus package.

In Sarawak, unifi is currently available at 24 areas comprising more than 172,000 premises passed in 24 areas such as Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang among others. To date, there are over 75,000 unifi customers in Sarawak.

TM and Huawei seal strategic partnership to further enhance malaysia’s broadband reach and digital economy

As pioneers in the rollout of high speed broadband in the country, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (Huawei) are once again collaborating for the betterment of broadband and digital economy for the nation. The companies recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for both parties to work hand-in-hand in multiple collaboration activities, leveraging on each other’s core expertise and capabilities to accelerate fibre broadband network reach, in line with the Government’s move to drive Malaysia’s digital economy. The collaboration will leverage on the combined strengths and capabilities of both companies to further accelerate national broadband reach and leap-frog the adoption of a connected digital lifestyle and the Internet of Things (IOTs) amongst Malaysians. Via the strategic partnership, both TM and Huawei will play a more proactive developmental role in providing ready infrastructure and ecosystem to support the nation’s growth. The MoU was signed by Datuk Bazlan Osman, Executive Director / Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Foo Fang Yong, Vice President of Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, Managing Director / Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Baker Zhou, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd. Commenting on the partnership, Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly said, “We are indeed excited to be working hand in hand with a leading global name such as Huawei to accelerate the offering of digital services and solutions to the nation thus further support the Government’s aspirations of digital economy. The MoU also envisages other areas across TM Group of Companies including network and technology planning, exploration of innovative business model for unifi, transformation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance overall efficiency of TM’s IT and Business support platform, smart device cooperation, establishment of Multimedia University (MMU) Smart Campus model and knowledge sharing on innovative technology. According to the MoU, Huawei will share its extensive global best practices to help TM capitalise emerging opportunities quickly through big data aided network design and deployment, intelligent Smart Capex solution to respond fast to TM customer needs, and simplify business engagement between both organisations via inter-connecting IT processes. Through this strategic partnership, TM aspires to pursue the innovation and commercialisation of technology which includes Internet of Things (IoTs), cloud technology and artificial intelligence towards delivering digital experience to more Malaysians nationwide. TM will also explore alternative wireless technology deployment to further expand high speed broadband reach across Malaysia; bridging the digital divide and meeting the Government’s objective of a truly connected society. TM extends ‘JASA Pack’ unifi mobile plan to all PDRM officers & staff to support their digital lifestyle

A specially priced unifi Mobile ‘JASA’ offers unlimited calls, data and SMS available for subscription starting today As the one and only brand in Malaysia that offers a truly converged broadband services to Malaysians nationwide, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today reiterates its appreciation for the contributions of Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) to the nation with the extension of its unifi Mobile ‘JASA’ Pack to all PDRM officers and staff. The specially priced unifi Mobile plan was launched by Datuk Bazlan Osman, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, the Inspector General of Police. Also present were other police officers and PDRM staff of various ranks. TM extends free connectivity to more than 1,000 community centres nationwide

​FREE WiFi for close to 60 PPRs and over 1,000 community internet centres nationwide in collaboration with MCMC to provide internet access and facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR). Provides connectivity and devices to students from lower-income families (B40) under Tabung CERDIK in collaboration with Yayasan Hasanah. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 available from 7am to midnight daily – an effort by Ministry of Education (MOE) to increase access to quality education for students nationwide. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), as the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, continues to extend Internet connectivity to more Malaysians, particularly the B40 group. The Company is providing FREE WiFi access at close to 60 People’s Housing Projects (Projek Perumahan Rakyat – PPR) and more than 1,000 community internet centres nationwide.  Students at 60 PPRs to benefit from FREE WiFi TM has been providing free WiFi access at 60 selected PPRs since January running until 30 April 2021, especially to assist SPM and STPM candidates. This latest initiative, in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is to facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah – PdPR) of students at the PPRs. FREE connectivity at more than 1000 Community Internet Centres TM is also enabling more local communities as well as students especially in sub-urban and rural areas to enjoy free broadband connection and utilise the facilities safely for their online learning at 563 WiFi Komuniti (WK), 437 community internet centres (Pusat Internet Komuniti – PIK), and 37 Pusat Internet Desa (PID); also in collaboration with MCMC. Providing support to the Tabung CERDIK initiative In addition, TM is also collaborating with Yayasan Hasanah to support the Tabung CERDIK initiative which was announced by the Government during the tabling of Budget 2021. The initiative will see government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) contribute RM150 million to provide laptops to 150,000 students in 500 schools, as a pilot project and is aimed at enabling PdPR. TM will be contributing connectivity and devices with an estimated value of over RM20 million. TM will contribute approximately 300 laptops worth RM500,000 while through unifi Mobile, TM will offer participating GLICs/GLCs the industry CERDIK mobile package which will be bundled with their device contributions. The Company will also upgrade broadband connectivity for 325 schools identified by the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the initiative as well as the nearby 156 Pusat Internet Centres and 17 PPRs. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 The MOE has recently announced that its new terrestrial dedicated TV channel, known as DidikTV KPM, will start its broadcast on Wednesday, 17 February 2021. TM also facilitates PdPR amongst students by hosting the daily broadcasts of DidikTV KPM on unifi TV from 7am until midnight on unifi TV channel 107. DidikTV KPM will broadcast specially designed content based on MOE’s curriculum and co-curriculum, aside from news on education, edutainment programmes, student-generated content as well as relevant international programmes.  Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: “Connectivity is crucial at this time as more Malaysians are at home; especially with most students having to learn remotely via PdPR. We hope that with the availability of free connectivity at these 60 PPRs and more than 1000 community internet centres, local communities especially students from the B40 families can attend classes and utilise online learning tools so that they won’t fall behind in their studies. They will be able to utilise unlimited data for learning applications and online classroom sessions, especially the candidates of the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) preparing for the examinations. Most importantly, they can stay safe and stay productive at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO).” “We reiterate our support of the various Government and MCMC initiatives to address the digital gap especially among the low income groups, such as Tabung CERDIK. Apart from devices, students are in dire need of mobile connectivity that comes with unlimited data and affordable monthly subscription, which does not require frequent add ons or top-up when their quota has been utilised. The special unifi Mobile #BEBAS data package for SPM/STPM 2021 candidates and students of higher learning institutions, as well as the additional 1GB LTE daily data allowance, which has been in place throughout the MCO are to help Malaysians at this challenging time. We will continue to innovate our offerings to deliver seamless connectivity and an enhanced service experience to more Malaysians nationwide, in line with the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) action plan. As the enabler of Digital Malaysia, we remain committed to serve a more digital society, business and government,” added Imri. Extended mobility with unifi Mobile FREE daily 1GB (up to 30GB monthly) LTE data TM through unifi Mobile also continues to support Malaysians’ connectivity needs with FREE daily 1GB (or up to 30GBs monthly) LTE data until 30 April 2021. This complimentary data is available to all unifi Mobile postpaid as well as #BEBAS prepaid customers, on top of their existing monthly data allocation based on their subscription plan. The special package offers a 15GB LTE pass at the price of RM20 only, with a 30-day validity period, and is available until 30 April 2021.  Meanwhile, unifi customers continue to enjoy unlimited internet and data on our unlimited home and mobile plans.
