TM PROTÉGÉ Ready to Work (RTW) programme is in line with Government’s effort to raise the employability level of graduates
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continuously empower Malaysian graduates with its education-oriented and skill enhancement programmes. Most recently, the Company enrolled participants for its Ready to Work (RTW) programme, namely Professional Training and Education for Growing Entrepreneurs or PROTÉGÉ, in line with the Government's effort in raising the employability level of the graduates.
This PROTÉGÉ programme or previously known as Program Skim Latihan 1Malaysia (SL1M) is under the supervision of PROTÉGÉ Secretariat and the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC).
The main objective of this programme is to improve the marketability and entrepreneurial skills of unemployed graduates, including through on-job-trainings and guidance programmes in collaboration with industry experts. It is also aimed at producing more entrepreneurs and job creators who are competitive, meet the current industry need and ready for the global market.

TM recently held an engagement session - 'Majlis Ramah Mesra TM bersama PROTÉGÉ' - with the participants of its latest TM PROTÉGÉ Programme intake at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. Farid Basir, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM attended the event and shared some tips and thoughts on career growth and development with the participants. Also present at the event were Norhadznita Hj Mohammad Ilham, Head Secretariat PROTÉGÉ, MEDAC, Prof. Dato' Dr Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, President of MMU, Norkhairul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer, MMU Cnergy and Badrul Hisham Bahari, Chief Executive Officer, GITN Sdn Bhd.
Commenting on the PROTÉGÉ programme, Farid said, "The creation of a digitally-ready community and future-proof workforce has always been one of the pillars under the Company's Digital Malaysia aspiration. While we continue to evolve as an organisation, we have always been committed to our role towards building the nation. Through programmes like TM PROTEGE, TM aspires to empower the leaders of tomorrow with relevant skills in innovation and technology towards serving a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government. This includes nurturing a highly skilled workforce and accelerating digital adoption via on job training with industry guidance and professionals expertise. Our involvement in PROTÉGÉ reflects our staunch support towards the Government's efforts in increasing the employability of the young graduates and equipping them for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). This is befitting our role as the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, empowering Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations."
Since 2011, under the SL1M programme, TM has trained 2,846 graduates. The initiative was then continued with PROTÉGÉ, which saw 140 participants selected for the first intake in February 2020. They are currently undergoing on-the-job training at TM and GITN Sdn. Bhd, a subsidiary of TM.
In September 2020, the programme continues with its second intake of 169 participants who are now attending soft skills training at MMU, Cyberjaya.
The eight (8) months intensive programme consists of soft skills classroom and online training for one (1) month, followed by on-job-training (OJT) for seven (7) months. There are seven (7) core soft skills modules involved including communications, technical and management skills required by the industry as well as effective work ethics. The OJT will prepare the participants with a career mindset and enable them to experience the real working environment. This second intake is expected to graduate in April 2021. TM PROTÉGÉ is among the major initiatives under TM's Graduates Employability Programme. Other initiatives are unifi Sales Apprentice Programme, participation in virtual career fairs, such as Talentbank Digital Career Fair, Graduan Virtual Digital Career Fair and career webinars with universities. In the near future, TM will also introduce a new graduates' trainee programme for the undergraduates.
In the meantime, TM, through its education arm, MMU will continue to support the Government's aspiration towards a digital era ready workforce particularly in the fields of IT, communications and multimedia especially in the current Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) era. Since its establishment 22 years ago, MMU has produced over 60,000 graduates with high marketability, including for major players in the industry.
Additionally, since its establishment in 1994, TM's foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) has awarded education sponsorship to more than 15,000 deserving students of high academic calibre to pursue their studies at government schools and universities in Malaysia and abroad, with a total sponsorship value of over RM549.5 million. YTM continues to focus on nurturing the right talent that will ultimately contribute to the growth of the Company, industry and nation.

TM One Smart City Summit 2022: accelerating the transformation of townships into smart cities through partnership with local authorities
Themed ‘Solutions Built for Citizens’, TM ONE City LEAP Summit is TM’s initiative to support the Ministry of Housing and Local Government's (KPKT) aspirations in strengthening the ‘Liveable Malaysia’ agenda TM ONE, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently hosted the City LEAP Summit 2022, with the aim of boosting smart city execution by local city and municipal councils (PBT). The two-day event, held in Genting Highlands, was the second time the summit was organised, and was attended by a total of 60 participants from 26 PBTs nationwide. Held under the theme of ‘Solutions Built for Citizens’, the summit, which focuses on sustainability and improving the quality of life for citizens, constitutes one of TM ONE’s initiatives to take Malaysia’s Smart City transformation forward by supporting the Ministry of Housing and Local Government's (KPKT) aspirations for a “Liveable Malaysia”. Lined up were curated programmes, aimed at empowering collaboration amongst local authorities to adopt new global trends and accelerate the implementation of smart cities in their respective localities. This event builds on the first City LEAP Summit in 2020, held in Langkawi, prior to the COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO). The inaugural event, among others, featured demonstrations of 11 Smart Services use cases on the island managed live from the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC). The 2022 summit was attended by Kamaruzaman Umar, Deputy Secretary General of KPKT who represented YB Dato' Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, together with several key representatives from the ministry and government bodies including the State Secretary’s Offices (SUK) and State Economic Planning Units (UPEN) from various states. This year's City LEAP Summit provided insights into best practices as well as use cases of effective planning and execution of a smart city with talks by Bapak Setiaji, Chief of Digital Transformation Office, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia who previously was the Head of Jakarta Smart City; and multi-award winning Smart Cities and IoT industry expert, Dr. Mazlan Abbas, who is also co-founder and CEO of FAVORIOT Sdn. Bhd. In addition, the event featured two comprehensive knowledge sharing sessions by Md Farabi Yussoff Md Yussoff, Head of Smart City Unit from PLANMalaysia (Federal Department of Town and Country Planning), and Mohamad Rejab Sulaiman, Vice President, Product & Innovation of TM ONE. They shared their expertise in the smart city standard benchmarks, integrated digital solutions and end-to-end technology for smart cities. In welcoming the delegates, Ir. Ts. Azizi A. Hadi, Chief Operating Officer of TM, said: “The development of a planned, integrated and holistic smart city is both timely and important. It helps to ensure that Malaysia is always in line with the current global urban development. Urban development extends beyond just making the city smarter; we must also ensure that the city leverages technology innovatively and creatively to provide a more liveable Malaysia.” He reiterated that with existing assets of the TM Group, including the widest broadband network infrastructure, submarine cables, telecommunication towers, cloud computing, data centres and cybersecurity, TM One is primed to provide world-class services and more effective solutions to local authorities. Besides that, with its services and solutions aligned with the objectives of the Malaysia Smart City Framework (MSCF), TM One is well positioned to assist PBTs in achieving most of the Smart City standard indicators (ISO 37122:2019). In his opening speech, Kamaruzaman said: “The success of a smart city lies in its implementation and requires coordinated efforts across three layers within the government; namely federal, state and local governments. Nevertheless, the participation of the private sector and industry players are equally important in the smart city ecosystem.” He also highlighted that public-private partnership is one of the most effective platforms to advance smart city implementation, and closer collaboration is needed between all relevant parties to accelerate smart city development in the country. Commenting on the summit, Shazurawati Abd Karim, Executive Vice President of TM One said: “Through this event, we aspire to produce a clear human-centred technology Smart City action plan that can be implemented and driven together between PBTs and TM One this year and beyond. TM supports affected small businesses and communities through “Inisiatif Tolong Menolong”
Reaching out to more than 140 SME businesses and 14,000 families nationwide as part of the ongoing Malaysia Prihatin movement. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) stays committed to its efforts in lending support and aid to affected Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) businesses and communities during this challenging period of COVID-19 pandemic. In view of the immense impact of this unprecedented period, Yayasan TM (YTM), TM's social impact-based foundation and also its Corporate Responsibility arm, embarked on a food bank programme called "Inisiatif Tolong Menolong", as part of the ongoing "Malaysia Prihatin" movement. The two (2) months programme is aimed at supporting local SME businesses such as grocery stores, sundry shops and restaurants as well as community groups in need including B40 families and the homeless, who are affected by the pandemic and enforcement of Movement Control Order (MCO). For this initiative, YTM works with TM's state offices nationwide to identify the local SMEs and provide the beneficiaries with basic necessities to alleviate their burden during this challenging time. Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM shared: "We understand that the MCO is necessary to keep Malaysians safe during this pandemic, but it brought its own challenges to our livelihood. This is where YTM and TM Group continue to lend our helping hand wherever possible, embracing the spirit of "Malaysia Prihatin" and #kitajagakita. Apart from other ongoing initiatives to help the nation bounce back, we have embarked on this nationwide "Inisiatif Tolong Menolong" that adopts a two-pronged approach – providing basic necessities to those in need by purchasing the items from the local SME businesses in the vicinity. The initiative, kicked off on 20 August 2021 nationwide, is set to benefit more than 140 SME businesses, which were selected as collection points for the identified 14,000 families to get their basic food supplies in their respective areas. This programme is also part of the collective humanitarian efforts of the GLC/GLIC Disaster Response Network (GDRN), for which YTM is co-chair together with Khazanah Nasional Berhad's Yayasan Hasanah, under Ministry of Finance (MOF)-GDRN PERMAI Relief Fund 2021; a matching grant announced under Initiative 6 of Pakej Bantuan Perlindungan Ekonomi & Rakyat Malaysia (PERMAI) to provide immediate relief to those adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disaster. Earlier this year, TM had disbursed RM1.5 million of the TM's MOF-GDRN PERMAI Relief Fund 2021 via 17 NGOs nationwide and benefited more than 10,000 families from various backgrounds. Also under this fund, working together with Persatuan OKU Sentral and GDRN partners, TM has recently contributed a month's supply of food for front-liners and volunteers working at a Drive-Through Vaccine Center (PPV) specifically for the special needs community, including their guardians and senior citizens in Johor Bahru. To date, the TM Group including YTM has extended close to RM20 million through various initiatives to ease the lives of affected communities, and in continuous support of Malaysia's nation-building and community welfare agenda in these challenging times. Consolidation of TM’s business in Malaysia to strengthen fixed-mobile convergence leadership and improve operational efficiency
Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM" or "the Group") today announced an internal reorganisation which involves the transfer of its business in Malaysia to a single operating entity named TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd ("TM Tech"). The internal reorganisation is anticipated to complete by 31 December 2023. The reorganisation – which includes Unifi, TM One and TM Wholesale, among others – marks the next phase of the Group's transformation to be the enabler of a digital Malaysia, and to further improve its operational efficiencies, streamline processes and simplify customer touchpoints to provide a more seamless customer experience. Incorporating its diverse businesses under TM Tech will also reinforce TM's Fixed-Mobile Convergence leadership, offering integrated fixed broadband, mobile services, data services, digital content and innovative solutions to communities, businesses and the Government. Group CEO, Imri Mokhtar said, "As digital lifestyles, increasing competition and stakeholder expectations reshape the industry, consolidating these businesses into one operating entity will allow us to serve our diverse customer segments better and deliver their needs more quickly.
