TM enhances young graduates employability with its TM Protégé Programme
TM PROTÉGÉ Ready to Work (RTW) programme is in line with Government’s effort to raise the employability level of graduates
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continuously empower Malaysian graduates with its education-oriented and skill enhancement programmes. Most recently, the Company enrolled participants for its Ready to Work (RTW) programme, namely Professional Training and Education for Growing Entrepreneurs or PROTÉGÉ, in line with the Government's effort in raising the employability level of the graduates.
This PROTÉGÉ programme or previously known as Program Skim Latihan 1Malaysia (SL1M) is under the supervision of PROTÉGÉ Secretariat and the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC).
The main objective of this programme is to improve the marketability and entrepreneurial skills of unemployed graduates, including through on-job-trainings and guidance programmes in collaboration with industry experts. It is also aimed at producing more entrepreneurs and job creators who are competitive, meet the current industry need and ready for the global market.
TM recently held an engagement session - 'Majlis Ramah Mesra TM bersama PROTÉGÉ' - with the participants of its latest TM PROTÉGÉ Programme intake at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. Farid Basir, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM attended the event and shared some tips and thoughts on career growth and development with the participants. Also present at the event were Norhadznita Hj Mohammad Ilham, Head Secretariat PROTÉGÉ, MEDAC, Prof. Dato' Dr Mazliham Mohd Su'ud, President of MMU, Norkhairul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer, MMU Cnergy and Badrul Hisham Bahari, Chief Executive Officer, GITN Sdn Bhd.
Commenting on the PROTÉGÉ programme, Farid said, "The creation of a digitally-ready community and future-proof workforce has always been one of the pillars under the Company's Digital Malaysia aspiration. While we continue to evolve as an organisation, we have always been committed to our role towards building the nation. Through programmes like TM PROTEGE, TM aspires to empower the leaders of tomorrow with relevant skills in innovation and technology towards serving a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government. This includes nurturing a highly skilled workforce and accelerating digital adoption via on job training with industry guidance and professionals expertise. Our involvement in PROTÉGÉ reflects our staunch support towards the Government's efforts in increasing the employability of the young graduates and equipping them for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). This is befitting our role as the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, empowering Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations."
Since 2011, under the SL1M programme, TM has trained 2,846 graduates. The initiative was then continued with PROTÉGÉ, which saw 140 participants selected for the first intake in February 2020. They are currently undergoing on-the-job training at TM and GITN Sdn. Bhd, a subsidiary of TM.
In September 2020, the programme continues with its second intake of 169 participants who are now attending soft skills training at MMU, Cyberjaya.
The eight (8) months intensive programme consists of soft skills classroom and online training for one (1) month, followed by on-job-training (OJT) for seven (7) months. There are seven (7) core soft skills modules involved including communications, technical and management skills required by the industry as well as effective work ethics. The OJT will prepare the participants with a career mindset and enable them to experience the real working environment. This second intake is expected to graduate in April 2021. TM PROTÉGÉ is among the major initiatives under TM's Graduates Employability Programme. Other initiatives are unifi Sales Apprentice Programme, participation in virtual career fairs, such as Talentbank Digital Career Fair, Graduan Virtual Digital Career Fair and career webinars with universities. In the near future, TM will also introduce a new graduates' trainee programme for the undergraduates.
In the meantime, TM, through its education arm, MMU will continue to support the Government's aspiration towards a digital era ready workforce particularly in the fields of IT, communications and multimedia especially in the current Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) era. Since its establishment 22 years ago, MMU has produced over 60,000 graduates with high marketability, including for major players in the industry.
Additionally, since its establishment in 1994, TM's foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) has awarded education sponsorship to more than 15,000 deserving students of high academic calibre to pursue their studies at government schools and universities in Malaysia and abroad, with a total sponsorship value of over RM549.5 million. YTM continues to focus on nurturing the right talent that will ultimately contribute to the growth of the Company, industry and nation.

TM One and MPSJ embarks on 5G demonstration project in Subang Jaya

Also present at the event were YB Michelle Ng, ADUN for Subang Jaya as well as representatives from the State Executive Council. Commenting on the collaboration, Tuan Haji Rosli said; "We are proud and excited to join forces with MPSJ in supporting MCMC's 5G Demonstration Project to deploy 5G infrastructure and services to Malaysians. The use cases that we are rolling out in all of our 5GDP locations are particularly selected to address the specific challenges faced by the community and stakeholders at the respective locations. For Subang Jaya, we have, together with MPSJ, identified prior to the project that parking, congestion and safety issues are among the community's top concerns. Today, TM and MPSJ are together in demonstrating how smart cities can be powered by 5G and Subang Jaya is indeed a perfect location to demonstrate these capabilities. We hope that throughout the 5GDP period, we will be able to show how 5G-enabled solutions can solve the challenges and create an Ultimate Smart City Experience for Subang Jaya, making it a smart city pioneer in Malaysia. This is in support of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) efforts in progressing humanity towards improving the quality of lives of the Rakyat." "We hope as 5G becomes a reality, the communities will experience better streaming and connectivity and this will certainly bring a multitude of benefits to Subang Jaya city. Streets, buildings, public and personal devices need to be interconnected in order to manage the resources and operations in Subang Jaya. This can only be cost-effective and efficient if they are automated and connected and this is in line with MPSJ efforts to make Subang Jaya a safe, green, smart, prosperous, healthy and women-friendly municipality. MPSJ plans to install more than 100 high-tech CCTV cameras in the SS15 commercial area to monitor parking and traffic flow and under the proposed pilot project, the CCTVs would be equipped with enhanced technology and algorithms that could gauge the behaviour of motorists and alert MPSJ or the police if any urgent action is required," said TPr. Hjh Noraini. Noraini added that it is MPSJ's hope that this initiative and collaboration will realise MPSJ's aspiration to become a Smart City by 2030 and at the same time, support the Selangor state government vision towards making Selangor as the pioneer smart city by 2025. Through this partnership, TM One and MPSJ agree to jointly collaborate in the deployment of the 5G network with the rollout of the three (3) use cases, where the transmission of TM's 5G service and the use cases have been fully operational since November 2019. Both parties have also agreed to undertake joint marketing and promotion activities of the use cases in SS15, Subang Jaya for a duration of six (6) months. Ahmad Taufek added, "5G is the next-generation network that will serve as the enabling technology for the Internet of Things (IoT), leading to many transformative smart solutions such as the Smart City Solutions and beyond. TM, via our innovative and comprehensive products and solutions will continue to lay the foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and enabling IoT – to serve a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government. TM ONE as the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of TM is committed to support the Group's role as the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations - that has established the communications backbone of Malaysia with the widest connectivity and convergence network." TM ONE's 5G-enabled Smart Traffic Light solution programmes traffic lights to respond to real-time, rich data collected by connected high-definition (HD) cameras and sensors, to enable improved traffic flow and reduces idle time at red lights. The Smart Parking solution enables real time parking bay monitoring using HD camera and Artificial Intelligence (AI), so users are able to search for vacant parking bay and navigate via path finder to reduce the time spent searching for the spot. Meanwhile, MPSJ enforcers can monitor parking occupancy and illegal parking incidents from the command centre and deploy resources more efficiently, thereby reducing traffic congestion at outdoor parking areas. The Smart Safety and Security solution provides advanced surveillance and real-time monitoring through video streaming from sensors and HD camera. Powered by AI capabilities, and integrated with TM's emergency response team, immediate action can be deployed in case of emergencies, as well as predictive analysis on actual incident situation for proactive response. Apart from the three use cases deployed in partnership with MPSJ, TM deploys three (3) other use cases through its research and development arm, TM R&D Sdn Bhd (TM R&D). Two (2) use cases - Smart Retail Analytics and Smart Water System are deployed at private commercial premises in SS15, Subang Jaya while Smart Vehicle will be implemented at TM Fleet in the area. Earlier last week, the Company announced that it has begun transmission of 5G service in Pulau Langkawi, where it is deploying the first 5G Stand Alone (SA) network, and will be demonstrating more 5G use cases there.
TM Activates Relief Measures for Customers and Communities Affected by Putra Heights Fire Incident
Kuala Lumpur, 4 April 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”) expresses its deepest sympathies to all individuals and families affected by the recent fire incident caused by a pipeline burst in Putra Heights. TM’s technical teams are ready and committed to immediately restore services and rebuild any affected network infrastructure in stages, based on the severity of the damage. Restoration work will commence as soon as clearance is granted by BOMBA and the relevant authorities. At the same time, the Group is rolling out a series of immediate relief and recovery measures to support impacted customers and the Putra Heights community, including: Waiver of Unifi Home bills for a minimum of one month, depending on the progress of network restoration, to ease the financial burden on affected customers. Credit term extension to 60 days with no service suspension. Free replacement of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) such as routers, modems, or mesh devices that may have been damaged. Free on-site support (OSS) and standard internal wiring. Priority assistance for Unifi Home and SME customers via our customer support line at 100. Complimentary WiFi at the temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to ensure uninterrupted communication and continued access to essential services. Additionally, Yayasan TM, the Group’s social impact foundation, will be extending humanitarian aid and providing essential supplies to affected families through the GLC Demi Rakyat & Negara (GDRN) collective efforts. Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s Group Chief Executive Officer said, “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected by this incident. We are mobilising all necessary resources to restore services swiftly and provide immediate relief to our impacted customers and communities. TM expands its unifi service to more areas in Kuching
Residents of three (3) more villages in Kuching namely Kampung Boyan, Kampung Gersik and Kampung Surabaya can now enjoy high speed Internet connectivity with unifi. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), through TM Sarawak, today expanded its unifi service to three (3) more villages in Kuching, Sarawak namely Kampung Boyan, Kampung Gersik and Kampung Surabaya (Kpg BGS).
