TM Towards a Sustainable Tomorrow campaign latest in TM’s comprehensive efforts to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050 and improve business operations and social impact.


Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today launched an initiative titled Program Kelestarian Hari Esok TM: Kempen Penanaman Pokok (TM Towards A Sustainable Tomorrow: Tree Planting Campaign) – an expansion of its short- and medium-term ESG commitments towards environmental sustainability, operational improvement, and value creation for the wider community.


Aligning with the Government’s Penghijauan Malaysia (Greening Malaysia) programme and international aspirations namely the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement, this campaign is the latest in TM’s commitment to plant 12,000 trees throughout the country by the end of 2022, to offset greenhouse gas emissions and slow down the impact of climate change.


This campaign follows closely on the back of TM’s earlier Gutta Percha tree planting programme, which saw the planting of 5,000 Nyatoh Taban Merah heritage trees in 23 locations in conjunction with World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2022 – which also garnered a Malaysia Book of Record recognition.


Launched at the Sultan Idris Shah Forest Education Centre, Puchong, TM’s latest campaign was graced by YB Datuk Ali Anak Biju, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. Also in attendance were YBrs Ahmad Norhad Zahari, Secretary of Communication Technology, Ministry of Communications and Multimedia; Amin Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Hijau Malaysia; Professor Dato’ Dr. Abdul Mua'ti @ Zamri Ahmad, Director, Centre for Strategy and Corporate Relations, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); Tan Sri Mohammed Azlan Hashim, Chairman of TM’s Board of Directors; and Imri Mokhtar, TM’s Group Chief Executive Officer.


Co-organised with Yayasan Hijau Malaysia, Jabatan Perhutanan Semenanjung Malaysia and UPM, the campaign supports the Government’s commitment to plant 100 million trees by 2025, with 5,000 trees being planted during this latest effort, and another 2,000 to be planted in the later part of the year.


60 Warga TM (TM employees) participated in planting the first 100 trees, with all of TM’s designated tree-planting sites to be known as “unifi Green Zones”.


YB Datuk Ali Anak Biju said, “Malaysia serves as a habitat for thousands of flora and fauna species and is the ‘green lung’ for oxygen generation and carbon storage for Malaysia and neighbouring countries. Our rainforests and bio-diverse ecosystems remain popular ecotourism destinations for local and international tourists, and serve in furthering environmental research and education.


“Over the last decade, tree planting initiatives have intensified to mitigate the effects of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change stemming from commercial and industrial activities and population growth.


“I am proud and grateful to see corporate organisations, government agencies as well as NGOs and education institutions collaborating on green initiatives with greater commitment, such as today’s event by TM and its partners. I hope more corporate companies will follow in their footsteps to help us realise our Greening Malaysia goals,” he added.


Tan Sri Mohammed Azlan explained, “Our ESG commitment is something we take seriously as it aligns with our transformation towards becoming a human-centred technology company. This pledge is reflected in our innovative solutions and services, and our efforts to improve business operations and fulfil our social responsibility to our customers, partners and communities.”


“In addition to tree planting, TM’s Klang Valley Core Data Centre, Iskandar Puteri Core Data Centre and KL City Data Centre have been powered by renewable energy since January 2022 – significantly reducing the impact of our business operations while supporting the nation’s digitalisation. We have achieved an 11% emission reduction in Q1 2022 against the baseline year of 2019 – putting us on track to achieve our goals of reducing emissions by 30% in 2024, 45% by 2030 and Net-Zero by 2050,” he shared.


TM also continues to strengthen its social and governance pillars – continuing to serve as the nation’s connectivity leader and providing high speed internet access to at least 70% of premises nationwide. The Group has also ensured 30% women representation among its Board of Directors and Senior Management, and works with organisations such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to uphold zero-tolerance towards corruption. TM continues to maintain the highest standards of corporate governance in all its partnerships and undertakings.

In conjunction with World SME Day, TM’s retail convergence solutions arm calls for Malaysians to support growth of local SMEs & nation’s economic rebound ​Recognising the immense contribution of local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to the country's socioeconomic growth, unifi Business is marking SME Day 2022, which falls on 27 June, with a month-long campaign to help these local players get back on their feet post pandemic, while rallying all Malaysians to support their business growth. TM & TNB in collaboration to accelerate broadband reach for the nation

Both GLCs to capitalise on combined capabilities to ensure successful delivery of Nationwide Fiberisation Plan Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop an implementation plan to deliver on the Government's Nationwide Fiberisation Plan (NFP). This collaboration will capitalise on the combined strength of both Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) in terms of reach, infrastructure and expertise. In particular, the synergies will enable the most efficient cost structure, and further accelerate the fibre broadband network reach. This is in line with the Government's aspirations to drive Malaysia's Digital Economy; as envisioned under both the NFP as well as the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) projects. Further, the roll-out under TM and TNB, as two of Malaysia's leading institutions, ensures the safety and security of the nation's strategic and critical infrastructure.  The proposed network will also continue the existing open access participation of industry players to promote private sector competition in retail broadband. The MoU was signed by Dato' Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, Managing Director/ Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, and Datuk Seri Ir. Azman Mohd, President/ Chief Executive Officer of TNB. The MoU is subject to a definitive agreement to be signed between the parties upon finalisation of the commercial terms. Further announcements will be made in due course, as and when appropriate.

TM aspires towards a human-centred technology company in delivering digital Malaysia following successful 37th AGM

2021 a milestone first-year of the New TM Transformation Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM" or "the Group") today successfully concluded its 37th Annual General Meeting, with all 13 Ordinary Resolutions and one Special Resolution tabled duly approved by its shareholders. The Meeting was conducted online for a third consecutive year to allow maximum flexibility for engagement with shareholders. The event saw over 1,000 shareholders attending virtually. Hosting the proceedings for the first time, Tan Sri Mohammed Azlan Hashim, Chairman of TM's Board of Directors said, "2021 has been a milestone first-year in our New TM Transformation, with the Group setting a solid foundation as a growth-oriented PLC investing for optimum long-term returns for its shareholders, while also continuing its nation-building efforts to realise a truly Digital Malaysia." Alongside the Board of Directors, key senior leaders including Imri Mokhtar, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer; and Razidan Ghazalli, Group Chief Financial Officer were also in attendance to offer insights into the 2021 Audited Financial Statements and the Group's moving forward business priorities. "In 2022, we aim to continue growing our operating revenue by strengthening our core business momentum to improve profitability, enabling us to invest for future growth. Our first quarter of 2022 recorded steady revenue growth at RM2.89 billion, an increase of 2.9% from this same period last year, despite heightened competition. We also ramped up our transformation initiatives and delivered profit after tax and non-controlling interests (PATAMI) at RM339.9 million, or 4.4% higher. We will continue to optimise cost and improve productivity in our effort to raise EBIT to more than RM1.8 billion," Imri explained. He added: "We are intensifying our efforts in the remaining seven months to deliver the next chapter of our Transformation. We will look at a total CAPEX spend between 14-18 per cent of revenue, with spending primarily focused on network expansion and modernisation together with enhancing customer experience." unifi will continue to maintain its leadership in fixed broadband and enhance its Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) proposition, enriched with TV and streaming content. This reflects its commitment to improve its FMC customer experience with better and seamless service. unifi will also grow its SME digital platform as a one-stop service centre for solutions catering especially to SMEs nationwide. TM Wholesale will continue to enable industry broadband and 4G network via its fibre infrastructure, with the ongoing 5G rollout further strengthening that role. On the international front, it will further serve other OTTs and hyperscalers with connectivity and data centres, moving towards establishing Malaysia as a digital hub for ASEAN via new submarine cables, enhanced data centre solutions, and edge computing. TM One, as the sole home-based cloud service provider will also offer end-to-end managed services with robust connectivity and infrastructure. In addition to ensuring data sovereignty and security for the MyGovCloud initiative, TM One will be ramping up its data centres to support the nation's Cloud First agenda. Recognising that the future is digital, TM has also invested in strengthening its digital services through Credence, a new arm that will focus on expanding the capabilities of enterprises in their digital transformation journey. Helmed by senior leaders from the technology sector, this new business will serve existing TM customers as an end-to-end Cloud and Services solution partner, offering services from tech infrastructure to business insights, IT landscape migration, SaaS, managed services as well as analytics. While improving connectivity and digitisation solutions to enable a better Malaysia, the human factor remains the true centre of TM's growth agenda. Imri concluded: "Our aspiration is to evolve towards becoming a human-centred technology company. From our beginnings as just a fixed telco, we are now a converged telco providing voice, internet and data through both fixed and mobile technology, which further delivers content, data centre and cloud services.
